The Simpsons Loses The Voice Of Mr. Burns
The longest running animated sitcom on television, The Simpsons, lost the voice of one of its most iconic characters, the grumpy old mister Burns. Harry Shearer, the voice actor behind the character was an irreplaceable part of Springfield, but won’t be anymore, as he announced over Twitter, that he’ll be leaving the show.
Shearer shared the official quote from lawyer James L. Brooks “Show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.”
The Emmy-winning actor voiced a number of iconic characters, except the evil Mr. Burns, including Ned Flanders and Principle Skinner. However, as he wanted “the freedom to do other work,” Shearer walked away from a $14 million deal.
His voice will surely be missed, but fans of the show should not be worried, as show-runner Al Jean stated in an interview with CnnMoney, that they won’t simply “kill off” the characters, but rather replace them with “the most talented members of the voice over community.” Jean also stated that, even though Maggie took it hard, they wish Shearer the best of luck and the show will go on stronger than ever.
