20 Tricks And Weird Things You Didn’t Know Your Body Could Do
Funny, Lists, Other, Science, Shocking, WeirdAlthough every one of us is different, we all have body’s that can do tricks and weird things we have never even heard of before. You actually never know what your body can do these days. Thanks to technology and research, now we can learn new tricks our body can do from relieving aches and pains without medication to telling the future. Here are 20 tricks and weird things you didn’t know your body could do.
Do We Have Super Hearing?
Say, you are at a noisy concert but you are trying to hear what your friend is saying. If you turn to listen to them with your right ear when they are talking, you will hear them better because the right ear is better at tracking active talking. However, if you are trying to figure out what song is playing, turn to the radio with your left ear toward it to be able to determine the song. This works this way because the different hemispheres of the brain work better for different things.
Scratch Your Ear To Ease Your Tickling Throat
When your throat starts tickling, you tend to try to clear it to get rid of the tickle. This doesn’t work very well, however. All you really need to do is scratch your ear to ease that tickle in your throat. When you scratch your ear, the scratching activates the nerves in the ear which in turn creates a reflux like reaction and causes a muscle twitch. The muscle twitching in your ear eases the tickle in your throat.
Think About Sex And It Won’t Bother You To Have To Pee
If you are in a situation where you can’t use the bathroom anywhere but you really need to pee, just think about sex — it eases the discomfort of having to urinate really badly. This is because the thought of having sex occupies your mind and your body and will distract you from feeling the discomfort of having to urinate so badly.
Decrease Temporary Pain
If you need to get some kind of injection when visiting the doctor or you are in the emergency room and you don’t want to feel the small pinch from the needle, just cough a little and it will decrease even this little bit of pain. This is because coughing decreases pain signals to the brain which, in turn, causes you to feel less of it.
Clear Your Nasal Passages
Instead of spending a ton of money on nasal decongestant, there is a neat little trick your body can do to clear your nasal passages. Just press your tongue against the roof of your mouth, flick your finger against the area between your eyebrows and this will make the bone in your nose to rock back and forth which will then loosen up your nasal passages and clear your sinuses up after about 20 seconds.
Fighting Acid Reflux At Night
If you suffer from acid reflux and want to sleep good at night without waking up needing to ease the heartburn, just sleep on your left side instead of on your back or your right side. This helps because the esophagus and stomach are tied at an angle and when sleeping on your left side, your stomach is lower than your esophagus. However, if you sleep on your right side, gravity doesn’t work so well because the stomach is higher than your esophagus which then allows the acid from your stomach to go right up into your throat causing you acid reflux.
Ease A Toothache With Ice
You can easily reduce the pain from your toothache with ice but without even opening your mouth. Just rub an ice cube on the area in between your thumb and your index finger and it will ease the pain up. This neat little trick will ease your toothache by about half, which is a lot when it comes to your teeth. This trick works because of that neural pathway that is in that little ‘V’ in between your thumb and index finger that keeps pain from going to your face.
Eliminate Burn Marks On Your Skin
This neat trick the body can do is like taking an eraser and erasing the burn marks from your skin. If you accidentally touch something really hot and burn your fingers or hand or any other part of your body, instead of putting ice on the burned skin, just clean your skin really well and apply some light pressure to where you burnt yourself using the unburned fingers on your other hand. Although ice helps with the pain from the burn, this natural trick will prevent blisters from popping up from the burn. This is because using the unburned fingers on your other hand and applying pressure to the burn will return the burned area to normal temperature, therefore, reducing the risk of blisters forming on the burned area of your skin.
Get Rid Of Brain Freeze
If you drank something that is really cold, take iced tea for example, pretty fast because you were really thirsty, you will probably get brain freeze. Brain freeze is, simply put; a sudden headache right after you drank something really cold, a little too fast.
There is a simple and quick fix that will prevent that sudden headache from forming. Just press your tongue against the roof of your mouth as hard as you can. The harder you press it, the faster it will prevent that brain freeze headache from sneaking up on you suddenly. The main reason you get a sudden headache after drinking something cold way too fast is because the nerves at the roof of your mouth freeze from the cold beverage. Since they freeze, your brain overheats causing a strong and sudden headache. However, as long as you press your tongue against the roof of your mouth as hard as you can, it will stop that strong and sudden headache from forming.
Slow A Rapid Heartbeat
Often times, we tend to get scared easily or nervous about something and our heart starts beating really fast. If something scared you so bad that your heart feels and sounds like it is about to pop out of your chest, blow on your thumb. That’s right! By simply blowing on your thumb, you can calm that rapid heartbeat down because there is a nerve there that controls your heartbeat and is controlled by just breathing.
Hearts Are Fortune Tellers
Not only can you calm your rapid heartbeat down by blowing on your thumb, but that rapid heartbeat can tell the future. How cool is that? So, before calming your rapid heartbeat down, wait and listen to what it is trying to tell you about what is going to happen soon. According to a research study done by researchers done at three different colleges including California, Illinois, and Italy, if your heart starts beating for no reason pretty fast, something exciting or even scary is about to happen. The researchers found that at least 10 seconds before showing the study subjects exciting images, their hearts started beating pretty fast. There is nothing to suggest why this happens, but in any case, you know that old saying is true when someone tells you to listen to your heart!
Achy Joints Can Predict Weather
You know that saying about achy joints predicting the weather? Turns out it is true! The reason why is because when a storm or colder weather is coming in, the pressure of the atmosphere drops which increases pain in the joints because the sensory nerve endings can tell when there is an increase in joint fluid pressure making them achy. So, next time someone tells you a storm is coming because their joints are achy, listen to them!
Our Eyes Can Warn Us Of Cold Too
Here is something fascinating; our eyes can predict when our body temperature is about to get way too cold. This happens because when hypothermia is about to happen, our eyes constrict to save on energy. Since this happens, our eyes start to dilate and can cause temporary blindness which is a major warning that the body temperature is dropping dangerously low. So next time you are in extreme cold weather and you lose sight for a few seconds, get where it is warm as fast as you can because hypothermia is about to set-in.
A Woman’s Vagina Gets Turned On Before Her Brain Does
A woman’s vagina has the ability to self-lubricate and gets turned on for sex before the brain even knows it. So, next time you and your partner are ready for intercourse, she will be ready before you will be and even before her brain is ready.
Another Eye Trick!
If you have strong feelings for someone, try to stay away from them where they can clearly see your eyes. Why? This is because our eyes can reveal when we are in love with someone. The pupils of the eyes tend to dilate when we are attracted to someone. So, if you have a secret crush, try to stay away from them in brightly lit places or your secret will be out fast!
Your Sense Of Smell Is A Time Machine
Have you ever noticed when you smell something, someone from your past used to wear, for example, their perfume, and you start to tear up? This is because our sense of smell can take us back in time from when we were with that person. This is all because the part of the brain that is responsible for smell is located in the same place as the part of the brain that is responsible for memory and emotions. So, next time you smell something from your past, you will understand why you might start crying a little.
Your Eyes Can Predict Spring Is Coming
Here we go with foreseeing the future and our body parts again! Not only can your sense of smell act as a time machine, and your rapid heartbeat can tell you if something exciting or bad is going to happen but now your eyes can see the future as well.
The future of spring around the corner, that is! This means that if your eyes start getting watery and itchy all-of-a-sudden when it is still cold outside, spring is just around the corner. This works because you start suffering from allergies, already letting you know the warmer weather is coming soon. Who needs Groundhog Day when we have our eyes to tell us when spring will be here?
Super Human Strength From The Digestive System?
Just when you thought you have heard it all, now the digestive system can provide us with super human strength. This means the saying is true that a woman can lift a car if her child is trapped underneath. How does this work? Adrenaline is released as soon as your brain is told danger is coming from your sympathetic nervous system. Once this happens, the pupils start to dilate, the heart starts beating faster, we start to sweat more, and more importantly, our digestive system starts to shut down temporarily in order to allow our muscles to contract with a lot of force which then provides us the strength we need in an emergency. Although the digestive system cannot lend permanent energy to us, it can provide it when we desperately need it.
Migraines Alert Us To Extreme Temperature Changes
The main reason for migraines is because of either extreme hot or extreme cold temperatures. This happens simply because an extreme change in either hot or cold weather can cause a chemical imbalance in the brain, especially serotonin, which then causes a migraine. So, the next time you start to get a migraine, stay inside where it is comfortably warm or cool, which will prevent one from happening.
Some Of Us Have Eye Mites
You know that really nasty stuff in and around your eyes after you wake up in the morning that you start to rub off your eyes as soon as you wake up? It is actually poo from an eye mite. Yes, some of us tend to have very small, tiny eye mites that live on our eyelashes. They live on half the world’s eyes and not only can make you experience a twitch of the eye at times but can leave some nasty stuff behind every morning.
That’s right! That eye crud you clean out of your eyes every morning, if you are one of the many people who have eye mites, is actually eye mite poo! How gross is that? You can get rid of them if you really want to by using tea tree oil but other than Mr. Mite leaving poo around your eyes, he doesn’t really hurt you. Next time you pull out a few eyelashes, put them under a microscope and you might just come eye-to-eye with Mr. Eye Mite. He feeds off the oils and cells from the skin around your eyes.
