20 Great Movies And TV Shows With Aliens

Aliens have been a part of culture for a very long time. When there are things that people just can’t explain, they make up things to explain them. Whether or not you believe that aliens truly exist, they do exist in movies and television shows. As long as people continue to believe in little green men, or little gray men (according to Fox Mulder), there will continue to be TV shows and movies that revolve around these otherworldly creatures. If you haven’t seen a movie or show on aliens in a while, you must live on another planet. Here are 20 shows and movies, old and new, that any alien lover is sure to enjoy.

The X-Files

The X-Files was a long running (9 seasons) show that started in 1993 and aired it’s last episode in 2002. It spawned a movie during its run and a movie after. And its popularity is so great that it will be back for a mini-series next year. It is about an FBI unit that follows the strange cases, and David Duchovny plays an agent who believes in aliens and whose sister was abducted by aliens when he was a child.

The Neighbors

The Neighbors only lasted two seasons, ending in 2014. It was a TV show about a group of aliens that landed on Earth to fulfill a mission. They all lived in a subdivision together, but things got weird when a human family moved in.

Men In Black

The first Men In Black movie came out in 1997 and the fourth movie is still a rumor. This mostly comedic movie series about aliens showed viewers that among all the people they thought might be posing as aliens, Michael Jackson was definitely one of them.

War Of The Worlds

War Of The Worlds was originally a radio broadcast by Orson Welles that aired on October 30, 1938. It scared the daylights out of many listeners who thought it was true. Most recently in 2005, Tom Cruise stared in a War Of The Worlds film that easily gave people nightmares of giant tripod machines that would harvest them for an alien agenda.

Mork And Mindy

Mork comes from Ork to study humans, and suddenly hilarity ensues. This show ran from 1978 to 1982, and was Robin Williams’ first long running stint on TV, playing a wacky alien. This show definitely didn’t make people afraid of aliens.

ALF

ALF didn’t make people afraid of aliens either, although it may have scared a cat or two. ALF ran from 1986 to 1990 and was about a wise cracking furry alien that spent his time with one family, and most of it was spent trying to eat their cat.

The Fourth Kind

There are a lot of alien movies about making contact with those from other planets. Heck, there’s even a movie named Contact. The Fourth Kind is abduction. That should be enough to tell you that this is one freaky movie. You aren’t just going to see aliens, you are going to see them take someone, even in your nightmares.

Independence Day

Independence Day was the day the world fought the aliens and won, in this scenario anyway. This movie gives the depiction that when they come, they’ll come to kill, not to make friends. The original film came out in 1996 and next year the aliens will be back.

Starman

Unlike movies like The Day The Earth Stood Still, in which aliens are portrayed as soulless beings that don’t care about humans, 1984’s Starman was just the opposite. It was basically an alien/human love story.

District 9

District 9 made the alien invasion look like it happened in a 3rd world country, but it did show the fear and strangeness that could happen if aliens were to come to Earth.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

Most children in the 80’s learned about aliens from this movie, which made them less scary than the human race themselves. E.T. crash landed on Earth and just wanted to get home, so one little boy helped him.

Falling Skies

Falling Skies is a television show about aliens that is currently in its 5th season. In this show, the aliens came to invade Earth but some survivors banded together to fight with them. They’ve learned to communicate with one another, aliens and humans, but they are still at war.

Roswell

Roswell could have been part of the backstory for Superman’s life. It’s a show that ran from 1999 to 2002, and was about 3 aliens that crash landed in Roswell and how they live life pretended to be human teenagers. The find love and they work to suppress their alien powers.

Not all aliens are little green men or disguised in human form. Kids of the 80’s, and even those of now, know that aliens can sometimes be vehicles (and dinosaurs) that can transform into giant robots. They are more than meets the eye.

V

V was a popular 80’s show, with movies to boot, that taught viewers that aliens were not to be trusted, no matter how nice they seemed to be. These human looking aliens were really lizards underneath. They ate things like mice and wanted to take over the human race. Just a few years ago they tried to rehash the show, but only made it through 2 seasons.

Alien Nation

Alien Nation had a movie and one season on TV. It was about some aliens that crash landed on Earth and were held in quarantine, then integrated into society. One of them even worked to fight crime with the humans. It shows that maybe when the aliens do come, humans and them can work together!

Love him or hate him, M. Night Shyamalan did a great job stepping into the fear of one family that was in the midst of an alien invasion. You didn’t get to see too much of the aliens, but you got to experience firsthand what it would be like to be a person tormented by aliens and trying to protect your family.

Starship Troopers

Starship Troopers has four films out, but the first one is the best one. In this future science fiction fantasy world giant bugs are killing the human race, so everyone needs to sign up and help fight. If you fight you earn citizenship. It’s a win-win situation, right? Unless you die on the battlefield.

Predator

In 1987, the world was first introduced to the Predator alien, when a group of military commandos become the hunted in the Central American wilderness.

Fire In The Sky

Scariest of all, if you like alien movies you definitely need to watch Fire In The Sky. This film is based on the real UFO encounter of some guys that happened in 1975, and a real life abduction. You will be frightened, and grossed out, by this movie. Don’t expect to sleep tonight.
