Art Students Build Giant Megaphones To Boost Forest Sounds
For plenty of people, going back to nature is thought to be one of the most pleasant things in the world. It’s a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of civilization, and indulge in sights and sounds alike. To that end, a band of builders has decided to make sure as many people as possible get to enjoy nature’s bliss — albeit with some extreme measures.
As part of their “forest as a classroom” initiative, interior architecture students from the Estonian Academy of Arts decided to build three massive wooden megaphones. Measuring ten feet in diameter, these megaphones are positioned in such a way that they work in tandem; the acoustics pick up and boost the sounds of the forest, which make it to the center for an audial treat.
Despite being part of a project, the intent is to make the setup enjoyable for anyone who ventures into the woods. Visitors are allowed to sit inside the megaphones and rest up, and thanks to their size they can be used as stages by eager musicians. Alternatively, the setup could convince people to curl up for a nap, or even get a good night’s sleep inside the Estonian forest. It’s not a conventional display, but the sheer spectacle alone is more than welcome.
