10 Ways Office Life Is Killing You
Lists, Other, Science, Shocking, SocialThere are currently far too many people working away their lives within a small, cramped office space. We go in every single day, sit down at a computer that we don’t own, and tap away at a keyboard while working on spreadsheets, for example. Our cubicle becomes a second home to some, which is sad and discouraging for those looking forward to a career in the future. What most people don’t realize, however, is that office life is actually killing you as a person, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Here are ten ways that office life is truly hurting your life.
Work Load
Most people tend to receive a massive work load while they are in the office. This work load ensures you have too much to handle, which brings on stress and depression for many. This stress aggravates the majority of office workers.
Extended Periods of Sitting
Scientists have learned that sitting for long periods of time is actually rather painful and horrible for your physical health. This incredible lack of physical movement is the perfect breeding grounds for diseases, including obesity.
Lack of Sleep
While most jobs don’t require you to work at night, sometimes the work does come home with you anyway. A lot of office workers tend to bring home stacks of papers to complete in their off-time, which means they don’t go to bed on time.
Lack of Family Time
Office workers who bring their work home don’t just lose out on sleep, they also lose out on time they could be spending with their families. Workers are often alienated from their families.
No Appreciation
Human beings, as a species, are quite simple in some regards. We require someone to appreciate the hard work we are putting forth. Office jobs don’t give you that satisfaction, though.
Eating Habits
Junk food is so readily available to someone who is working constantly, that it is hard to actually stand and cook a real meal full of nutritious substance. Because of this, most people tend to develop bad eating habits.
Eye Sores
Staring at a computer screen all day has been known to have a negative effect on both your eye’s health and your mental well-being. Eye strain, headache, dry eyes, and blurred vision are all quite common in this industry.
Addictions
People who work in an office environment tend to come up with some form of a coping method. More often than not, this method tends to be smoking cigarettes, which is a direct cause of cancer.
One Day Off
A lot of offices do require their workers to come in on Saturday, which means these individuals only get one day of respite from their boring work. That one day is not enough for most people to recuperate.
Environment
Believe it or not, the office environment is exactly what high school was like. There are groups of your colleagues who have formed little cliques and have no problem talking behind someone’s back. This can cause serious stress and mental strain.
