Witches were thought to be able to transform into cats themselves, and a black cat could supposedly be a witch.

And no, not breaking mirrors! It is actually believed by a lot of people that looking into a mirror can steal your soul. This means that pretty much everyone is soulless at this point.

Bird Poop

In Russia, being pooped on by a bird is actually a good thing. It can mean that riches are coming your way if a bird defecates on your car, you, or anything you own.

Fingers Crossed

Initially, crossing ones fingers was typically for good luck. The reason for this was that the crossing of fingers was to mimic the Christian cross. However, now crossing ones fingers is more often used as an excuse for telling lies; maybe they want to get lucky with their fib?

Bells

Bells are often rung during celebratory times such as after a wedding, or other special occasions. Although the initial thought might be that it is just to celebrate, it actually goes back to superstitious beliefs that the bells frighten evil spirits away.

The number 13 is often associated with bad luck, and many hotels or apartments won’t actually list a 13th floor. They will list a 12th floor and go straight to a 14th floor.
