10 Ridiculous Reasons Children Got Kicked Out Of School

The modern age means that schools now have an important role to play not just in educating children but also in keeping them safe and ensuring they don’t suffer any physical or emotional harm. This requires a delicate balance between enforcing the rules that they have created and using common sense to ensure that they don’t overreact to something a child has done that may be against the regulations. Especially when you consider that most children won’t have purposely broken the rules. Unfortunately, some of these schools failed spectacularly to use their judgement when one of their students made a mistake.

Growing Hair For Cancer Charity

When J.T. Gaskin, a survivor of leukemia himself, found out that one of his friends had been diagnosed with cancer, he decided to do something to help out those with the disease. The student began to grow his hair in an attempt to create a 10-inch ponytail which could then be donated to Locks of Love to help those who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment. His school didn’t take kindly to this charitable effort though and suspended him as the hair was deemed too long by their uniform policy.

Bringing Oregano Into School

Oregano is a herb that is often used in seasoning. However, it also somewhat resembles marijuana and this has led to some students getting into trouble for having it in their possession while at school. This was exactly what happened when a 14-year-old brought the herb into the facility. Administrators then gave the kid a 55-day suspension for violating drug policies.

For Saying He Would Turn Someone Invisible

After seeing The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, nine-year-old Aiden Stewart grew very interested in the power of the One Ring. The powerful artifact could turn its wearer invisible and while playing with classmates, Aiden told them that he had the ring and would make them invisible. Rather than taking this for the fun in which it was meant, the school removed him from class and sent him home for making a “terroristic threat.”

Farting On A School Bus

Although farting is something that everyone has to do, it can be frowned upon very much in society. None more so than at a school in Ohio. After two schoolchildren farted while travelling to school on the bus, administrators decided to suspend them for what they called an “obscene gesture” despite protests from parents.

Kissing A Girl’s Hand

Children often show their fondness for each other in school by hugging each other or giving out friendly kisses. These are almost always innocent, after all they don’t really have any sexual desires at a young age anyway. That didn’t stop a school in Colorado from kicking a six-year-old out of school for kissing a girl’s hand as they believed it was sexual harassment. Not only that, but they also included the incident on the boys permanent record.

Saying Bless You After A Sneeze

Religion causes a lot of problems around the world, yet saying bless you after someone has sneezed wouldn’t usually be considered a religious act. After all, it isn’t really said to actually bless someone but rather as a habit. This didn’t stop a school suspending a girl for saying just that in 2014, arguing that it broke rules about discussing religion.

For Making a Gun Shaped Pop-tart

The obvious risk of guns being brought into schools has seen many institutions create very strict rules and controls to help stop atrocities from happening on their premises. This was perhaps taken a little bit too far when a seven-year-old student in Maryland was given a two-day suspension for biting his pop-tart into the shape of a gun at lunch.

Wearing The Wrong Shade Of Green

Many schools have uniforms that students are expected to wear. However, Winslow Township Elementary School No. 4 took their enforcement of this policy a little too far in 2015 when they suspended an eight-year-old girl who was wearing a top that was slightly the wrong shade of green. Rather than explain how the clothes she was wearing were too light, they simply sent her home and suspended her from school for an entire day.

Violating The “No Hugging” Policy

The fact that a school has a “No Hugging” policy is something that seems entirely wrong, as hugging isn’t a form of harassment but rather a show of friendliness. The Southwest Middle School in Florida takes this policy very seriously though and suspended two students for a week when one of them hugged the other, believing that they were both equally guilty.

Shaving Her Hair

Going through cancer can be incredibly tough, especially for youngsters who don’t fully understand what is going on. One of the most difficult moments comes when the chemotherapy causes a person to lose their hair. To show solidarity with her friend who had gone through exactly that, a third grade girl shaved off her hair. The school though didn’t see the kindness in this act and simply kicked her out of school until her hair grew back.
