Christopher Sacca was born in Lockport, New York, on May 12, 1975. His father, Gerald Sacca, was an attorney, while his mother, Katherine Sacca, was a professor at SUNY Buffalo State who had also written several books in the field of education. After graduating from high school, Sacca attended The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. During his time in college, he spent several semesters studying abroad, including Ecuador, Ireland, and Spain. In 1997, Sacca graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in foreign service and became an Edmund Evans Memorial Scholar and a Weeks Family Foundation Scholar. Early Career
While still at university studying law, Sacca used his student loans to start a business. As the venture did poorly, he used his remaining funds to start trading on the stock market when he discovered a flaw in the software of online trading brokers in 1998. By 2000, the exploitation yielded Sacca a staggering $12 million from a mere $10,000 to $20,000 capital. However, when the market crashed, Sacca found himself $4 million in debt — filing for bankruptcy wasn’t an option as it will ruin his future career as a lawyer; he managed to negotiate the debt and got it reduced to $2.125 million and created a repayment schedule with his broker. Sacca successfully repaid the entire amount by February 2005.
From 2000 to 2001, Sacca began his career at the law firm Fenwick & West in Silicon Valley as an associate and also worked in other jobs to repay his enormous debt. In late 2001, after getting laid off Sacca spent many months attending networking events and working as a freelancer. But finding decent employment still proved tough, and the frustrated Sacca decided to rebrand himself and created the consulting firm The Salinger Group.
