Born Jason Terrance Phillips on May 27, 1975, in Yonkers, New York, to struggling parents who expected him to begin providing for himself at the early age of 12. With an early interest in the hip hop industry, Jadakiss became one of the people freestyle rapping on the streets, so he was able to do just what his parents requested. This enabled him to earn some money to care for his needs from a young age. Performing as an underground freestyle rapper on the streets is how he was able to meet Styles P and Sheek Louch, members of the popular hip hop band Lox.

Due to his immense amount of talent, Jadakiss’s abilities were discovered by The Ruff Ryders, Mary J. Blige, and other big-name hip hop artists who were able to help Jadakiss get his professional start in the industry. This was during a freestyle competition that Jadakiss entered when he was still a teen. Jadakiss teamed up with Styles P and Sheek Louch, forming a band called The Warlox as a rap trio, and they created some unique hip hop raps together.  They became an excellent New York hip-hop group.

In 1994, Puff Daddy, who created Bad Boy Records, decided to shorten the name of The Warlox to Lox, the hip hop band that so many people know and love. Lox performed with many well-known artists and songs under the Bad Boy label, like Mariah Carey’s “Honey,” Mary J. Blige, Mase, and more. Lox was also affiliated with Ruff Ryders Entertainment, which consisted of Eve and many other artists. Being a part of Ruff Ryders Entertainment enabled Jadakiss to reach the stardom that he had been seeking since the age of 12. 

Lox released four studio albums, 15 singles, one mixtape, and one compilation album. Lox released 3 On 3 in 2015, which was a single featured on their “Lessons” album, but they were only featured on this particular album. Lox’s platinum album was “Money, Power, Respect,” which was released in 1998.

Jadakiss’s First Solo Album – Kiss Tha Game Goodbye – Solo Career

The great American Rapper Jadakiss eventually decided to start a solo career and record his own solo studio albums. His first one was “Kiss Tha Game Goodbye,” which was released in 2001 on Ruff Ryder’s label. “Kiss Tha Game Goodbye,” his first studio album, sold over 200,000 copies the first week. Still, even though it appeared successful and became certified gold, the album was heavily criticized by critics who stated that it was uninspiring and repetitive, which Jadakiss surprisingly agreed with.

Following the critical review of Jadakiss’s first album, in June of 2004, Jadakiss released his second studio album, “Kiss of Death,” which was released via the Ruff Ryders label. This album quickly reached the top of the Hot rap songs chart, far exceeding the results of his debut album. 

Jadakiss signed a new record label with Jay Z’s label, and Jadakiss released his third album, “The Last Kiss,” and released via Roc a Fella Records, D Block Records, and Def Jam Records. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and during its first week, over 134,520 copies were sold. 

Jadakiss’s sixth solo album is titled “Friday on Elm Street” and was a collaborative album with Jadakiss and Fabolous, two American Rappers with great prominence. “Friday on Elm Street” was initially titled “Jason” Vs. Freddy,” which was in commemoration of Jason Vorhees and Freddie Krueger, two popular long-time horror movie characters.

Jadakiss has had a significant number of legal issues during his life. In July of 2004, he was arrested in the state of North Carolina for possession of illegal firearms and marijuana. He was eventually charged with a misdemeanor and ordered to pay a fine of $900. 

At one time in his life, Jadakiss started selling drugs. Two years later, in October of 2006, Jadakiss was arrested for drug and firearms possession in his hometown of Yonkers, New York, after police noticed the vehicle driving erratically. Upon inspecting the vehicle, law enforcement officers smelled a substantial amount of marijuana and found a loaded .38 pistol and a small amount of cannabis which was found on Jadakiss. Jadakiss was given two citations as a result.  

Police raided Jadakiss’s apartment in Yonkers, New York, in August of 2009, but Jadakiss was not home at the time and wasn’t staying there at all. Law enforcement confiscated five grams of heroin, six and a half pounds of cannabis, and an exceptionally large amount of cash. Two men found inside the apartment were arrested, but Jadakiss was not around again. Jadakiss spoke of how “unfortunate” it was that drug paraphernalia was found in an apartment that was in his name. Still, he denied having any knowledge of what was going on, as well as any involvement. 

Other Business Ventures – Jay Jackson

Jadakiss decided to branch out from his rap group and start other business ventures, one of which required him to team up with friend Jay Jackson and begin an online multimedia venture. This online business entails online publication, a YouTube channel, and more. Jadakiss also teamed up with Styles P and opened three juice bars in the state of New York as their way of “giving back to the community.”
