Born to William Costner and Sharon Costner in Lynwood California, Kevin Costner grew up in a traditional blue-collar family. He did attend two different high schools, first Mt. Whitney High School and then Villa Park High School later on where he graduated. After high school, he attended California State University and started to dabble in his acting career. He did not major in acting, however, he pursued an arts degree in finance, graduating in 1978.
