Mathematicians Say They Know What Happened To Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370
It’s been over a year since Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 and its 239 passengers and crew disappeared seemingly without a trace, and now a team of mathematicians have come up with a theory as to why nothing of the Boeing 777 has been found.
Dr. Goong Chen, from the Texas A&M University in Qatar, has theorized that the plane nosedived at a perfect 90 degree angle which would have allowed the plane to stay mostly intact. The collision with the ocean surface would have ripped off the plane’s wings, and all three large pieces would have immediately sunk to ocean floor. This theory is the result of a series of forensic computer simulations, and would explain why searchers haven’t found so much as an oil slick in the search area.
Searches have been conducted by Malaysian, Australian and Chinese Governments since the plane went missing on March 8th, 2014, focusing on an area of up to 120,000 square kilometers in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Western Australia. It is in this area that electronic information from the plane ceased and is deemed the most likely site for the crash. As no trace has been found, Dr Chen’s theory seems to be likely. Dr Chen told journalists “The true final moments of MH370 are likely to remain a mystery until someday when its black box is finally recovered and decoded. But forensics strongly supports that the MH370 plunged into the ocean in a nosedive.”
Sadly, it’s unlikely that the plane will ever be found as the Australian government, who took responsibility for the search at the request of the Malaysian government, forecasts that funds for the search will be exhausted within a few months.
