Maya Moore was born on June 11, 1989, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the U.S. She was raised by a single mother, Kathryn Moore. Her father, Mike Dabney, had been absent for most of her life since she was a kid. Maya Moore has two half-sisters from her father’s side, Olivia Dabney and Ashley Dabney.

Early Life

Moore started playing basketball at the age of 3 when her mother mounted a hoop to a door in their apartment. She attended Moreau Heights Elementary School in Missouri, and Collins Hill High School in Georgia. Moore has impressive records while playing basketball for her high school team, she had a 125-3 record with the Collins Hill Eagles, and scored 75 points for the Eagles. College Career

Maya Moore attended the University of Connecticut and played for the women’s team Uconn Huskies. Professional Career

In 2011, Maya Moore began her professional career with Minnesota Lynx when she was selected as the 1st overall pick in the WNBA draft. Start of the 2012 season, Moore led her team with a 10-0 run, which is the best start in WNBA history; also in that same year, she helped the Lynx to the WNBA Playoffs for the second straight year, unfortunately, the team fell to the Indiana Fever in the WNBA finals. At the same time, he was locked up at the Jefferson City penitentiary facility. Jonathon Irons was sentenced to prison for 50 years for burglary and assault when he was just 16 — Moore strongly believed Irons was falsely convicted and was a victim because of the color of his skin.

Moore put her WNBA career on hold in 2019 and 2020 and missed out on the Olympic games to assist Jonathan Irons with his release. After a tireless battle, Jefferson City Judge Daniel Green found Jonathon not guilty; Irons was eventually released on 1 July 2020. After his release, he and Maya Moore got married.
