At the age of 20, Buffer enlisted in the United States Army. He served until he was 23 when he became a care salesman. This was a job he kept for 15 years. At the age of 38, he made the move into the sport and became a ring announcer.

Before Buffer, boxing matches didn’t have only one ring announcer. In 1982, though, Buffer began working as a boxing announcer at sporadic gigs. After a short while, he began announcing boxing events that were widely broadcast.

Buffer expanded his repertoire to announce wrestling promotions, as well as major boxing matches and other wrestling events.
