Migos is an American hip hop group focused on the rap and trap rap genre. The stage names know the three rappers of Takeoff, Offset, and Quavo. The group consists of all family members who began rapping together. Takeoff is Quavo’s nephew. Offset and Offset are cousins.

The American rap trio grew up together since they’re all related. Hailing from Gwinnett County in suburban Atlanta, the group was first known as Polo Club when they began in 2008. In 2010, they took the step of renaming their trio Migos. The following year, Migos released their first mixtape, “Juug Season.” They followed that up with their second mixtape, “No Label,” in 2012.

The release of their single “Versace” put the three rappers at the forefront of the rap game. In 2013, that single, which Zaytoven produced, hit number 99 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Canadian rapper Drake took notice and did a remix of it. He added a verse and performed it at iHeartRadio Music Festival that year.

In June 2013, Migos rereleased “Versace” as the lead single on a mixtape, Y.R.N. (Young Rich Niggas). It garnered generally positive reviews thanks in part to that hit single.

In 2014, the trio released “No Label 2.” It was downloaded more than 100,000 times within a week of the release. In June of 2014, the rap trio signed with 300 Entertainment, part of Atlantic Records. “Rich Nigga Timeline” was released to accolades.

Migos debut album “Yung Rich Nation” was released in July 2015 after being delayed because of an incident involving the group at Georgia Southern University. Members of Migos and the entourage with them were arrested for charges such as possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm in a school safety zone, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Ultimately, Offset was incarcerated due to enhancements based on a felony conviction.

“Back to the Bando” and “Streets on Lock 4” were released in 2015. One of these was a collaboration with Rich the Kid. A 2015 “Look at My Dab” single helped top popularize dabbing. Cam Newton and Odell Beckham Jr. also boosted the popularity of this dance move.

In September 2015, Migos walked away from 300 Entertainment to move to Quality Control Music. This was a huge boost for the group, from earning $30,000 to $150,000 per tour stop.

Offset was released from prison in December 2015, and the trio put out “Young Rich Niggas 2” in January 2016. The group was relatively quiet until January 2017, when it released the “Culture” studio album. They followed that one up in January 2018 with “Culture II.”

In 2016, Kanye West claimed that Migos were signed with GOOD Music, West’s label, for a management deal. The rap group refuted that in January 2017 by saying they weren’t affiliated with that label.

The Future Looks Bright for Quavo Offset and Takeoff

The mainstream success of these three rappers as a trio has boosted their success as solo rappers. While the focus has been on the group, they’ve all enjoyed solo rap careers since their early life in the music industry. They each have solo singles out that have done well.

While there haven’t been any solo tours as of August of 2022, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if these men each ventured out on tours solo. Some fans are pushing for a tour that highlights each rapper as a solo act, then finishing with a set as Migos.
