Nintendo And Universal Partner Up For Theme Park Attractions

There aren’t a lot of names out there — in the gaming world or otherwise — that are bigger than Nintendo. The company that unleashed the Mario brothers on the world has stayed strong for decades, but it’s been branching out recently; its Amiibo line of collectibles is a hot commodity, and plans were announced to start supporting mobile games. But not a lot of people would have expected news that Nintendo would ever break into the theme park industry — yet here it is regardless.

In association with Universal Parks and Resorts, plans have been announced to bring Nintendo’s properties to life. As expected, details on the partnership — and what will come from it — will be revealed in the months to come once concepts have been fully developed; at the very least, the intent is to add new Nintendo-based attractions to Universal’s parks. Given how much attention these parks can get, that’s no small amount of exposure.

This announcement is coming off of news that Nintendo has begun turning a profit after a lengthy slump. There’s no telling how well the company will do in the video game space going forward, but even if ventures like a slew of theme park attractions doesn’t quite set the world on fire, it’s an effort that can spread awareness. Those who remember — or learn for the first time — Nintendo’s presence could be converted into eager customers, and lead to even more endeavors. Failing that, it might not be so bad to see a real-life Mario jumping his way through theme parks.
