Shocking Birth Of Syrian Baby With Shrapnel On Forehead
If the world ever really needed a symbol to represent the horrors of war at this point in time, then nothing can be more symbolic than a baby born in war-torn Syria with shrapnel markings.
The innocent new-born has been named ‘Amel’, a word that is supposed to represent hope. The name was given as a result of the trauma the baby had to experience during her first few days in the world, in the turbulent region of Aleppo in Syria. An air strike was allegedly planned on September 18th that attacked the homes of several people in Aleppo. One of the homes was that of Amira, Amel’s mother, who was nine months pregnant with the child. Amira was taken to the hospital immediately after the attack and an emergency laparotomy was performed fearing for the life of the child. It was revealed after Amel’s birth that the baby had suffered deep scarring on her body and face.
The doctor who performed on Amira had this to say about the incident to correspondents at CNN: “We don’t know if the baby girl saved her mother from this shrapnel or the mother saved her baby, but we all know that the devilish regime tried to kill them both. She wasn’t even born, and she was targeted. I mean, that’s the situation. I’m hoping she’ll have a better future.“
