Steve-O’s early life

Although he is considered American, Steve-O was actually born in London, England, on June 13th of, 1974. His Canadian mother and English American father named him Stephen Gilchrist Glover, and they lived in England while his father had a job with Pepsi-Cola. When Steve-O was just six months old, he moved along with his family to Brazil, because his father had received a major promotion as President of Pepsi-Cola in South America.

As he grew up in Brazil, Stephen Glover was exposed to several cultures and languages, and he has often remarked that his very first words were Portuguese. His family moved frequently when Stephen was young, and they had already relocated to Venezuela by the time he was two years old. At that time, Stephen became fluent in Spanish, and by the time he was six, he had moved to the United States, to Miami.

Frequent relocations

He would only stay there for the next three years since the family returned to England when he was nine years old. Following a three-year stay in England, Stephen relocated to Ontario, Canada, for a year, before returning to London for the last time. During this stay, he actually laid down some roots and spent four years learning at an English high school.

After graduating high school, he studied at the University of Miami. However, he dropped out soon afterward due to poor academic grades and decided to attend Clown School instead. After three years of attendance at Bailey Clown College, Steve-O could get professional jobs as a clown and began filming various stunts.

Steve-O’s Big Break

Steve-O got into the habit of taping many of his most dangerous skateboarding stunts and sending them to Big Brother, which was a popular skateboarding magazine at the time. Although Steve-O didn’t know it, the person who received most of those tapes was actually the future director of Jackass, Mr. Jeff Tremaine. Tremaine saw great potential in Steve-O and invited him to join the Jackass crew.

The first show of the series aired in the year 2000, and it ran for three full seasons, all the while garnering massive success. Steve-O himself became a huge favorite with the viewing fans, and they clamored for more. Jackass became so extraordinarily popular that it led to the spawning of several spin-offs right away. The series was transformed into a motion picture called Jackass: The Movie.

Steve-O’s Career Takes Off

Of course, Steve-O was asked to join the cast, and the film grossed approximately $80 million worldwide on a $5 million budget. The sequel was called Jackass Number Two, which did equally well at the box office, grossing $85 million on a budget of $11.5 million. The last of the Jackass movies was called Jackass 3D, and it grossed over $170 million around the world, with just $20 million in production costs. Other Jackass movie spin-offs are Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, Jackass 2.5, and the final Jackass movie, Jackass 3.5.

As soon as the year 2000, Steve-O had the foresight to consider a solo career. At this time, he released a solo DVD entitled Don’t Try This At Home. Most people were unaware that throughout Steve-O’s meteoric rise to fame, he had been a heavy abuser of alcohol and drugs.
